Church hopes to send medical team to Haiti

A Casper church hopes to send a medical team to Haiti next week to assist in the relief effort.
St. Anthony’s Catholic Church is trying to organize a nine-member orthopedic surgery team, but needs more volunteer doctors and nurses, said Jill Hendricks, a parishioner who’s helping to coordinate the effort.
“Things are changing on the ground there moment by moment,” she said. “And so we’re trying to roll with that and get help where it is needed, seeing that we have the means here.”
The parish has already found one nurse, but still needs four more with post-operative or trauma care training. Hendricks is also looking for two orthopedic surgeons and two anesthesiologists or nurse anesthetists. The team would work with Partners in Health, a Boston-based nonprofit group that has been providing medical care in Haiti since a powerful earthquake struck the country Jan. 12. …
